Barcelona Weekend Break

Bull Ring

Barcelona has a large bull ring built in 1899 and designed by architect Lluis Domenech Montaner.

Plans are currently a foot to redevelop this ring into a shopping and entertainment centre with a British architect rumoured to be involved in the project.

Putting aside the occupation and use of the bull ring, the building is certainly worth seeing.

It is built of a dark brick and its main entrance sees two large towers and some blue and white mosaic work sitting above four arches. The overall shape of the structure is a rough circle.

Whether you advocate or (more probably) object to bull fighting, this building is an important relic and link to the culture and history of Barcelona and, when not in use, it is worth taking a look at.
