Barcelona Weekend Break
Museu Nacional d'Art de Cataluna
The museum of Catalona is housed in the grandiose Palau Nacional building with its domes,
towers, ornamental fountains and decorative stairways. The building alone is a spectacular sight and its contents continue the theme.
The Museu Nacional d'Art de Cataluna has a varied collection of exhibits that represent the whole of Spain, but at the top of the list are the items of Romanesque art which are possibly the most complete and important collections of their kind in the world.
The museum also holds the biggest collection of Catalan art on open display with some exhibits dating back to the twelfth century.
The Museu Nacional d'Art de Cataluna displays work from the Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance periods, but it is the Romanesque relics that were saved and restored from all over the country that are the jewel in this museum’s crown.
If you like art, galleries, or museums of any kind, then this one will satisfy your interests.
Art works on display include those by, Velasquez, Dalmau, Greco and Huguet to name but a few.
