Barcelona Weekend Break

Placa Reial

The Placa Reial (or Royal Square) lies just off the main street of las Ramblas and is considered to be the most beautiful plaza in Barcelona.

It has a regal air and the elegant Neo Classical buildings that surround it and extend into the neighbouring streets hold restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs.

Within the square you find palm tress and some more of the street lamps that were early creations of Gaudi.

The Placa Reial is always busy, whatever time of the day or night, and although it once had a seedy and unsafe reputation that has now been remedied.

Tourist information

You will miss out on real Barcelona if you do not see this plaza.

The safety issues that plagued this area have now been resolved and there is normally a subtle police presence, but beware of pick-pockets throughout the town.
