Barcelona Weekend Break

Water parks close to Barcelona

Barcelona city does not have its own water park, but a relatively short bus journey will take you to a number of water theme parks a little way down the coast. Here are some summaries of some of them.

Port Aventura

Located at Costa Dorada, this park is a complete entertainment complex and it is owned and managed by the Universal Studios company. That should give you some idea of the scale and quality of what is on offer.

Port Aventura has a number of different zones, all with different themes, and within the complex you will find the Caribe Aquatic park. The Caribe Aquatic park has pools, rides and slides and large sections of the park are hosted in a massive indoor area making it a park for all weather conditions.

Other attractions of Port Aventura include some super fast (and high) roller coasters like the "Dragon Khan" and "Furius Baco" and some entertaining theatrical productions like "China Town" and "Aloha Tahiti". You will also find hotel and restaurant complexes in this "American" style theme park.

Tourist tip - great for all the family, whatever their age.

Marineland Catalunya

Marineland Catalunya is a first class family day out with a park that not only offers rides, but also includes a marine zoo holding well over 100 different aquatic animal species.

Marineland Catalunya has a good range of water rides and chutes and there are dolphin shows and a selection of fast food eateries as well. If you are on vacation with children and the weather is very hot, this park will prove a perfect and cooling day out.

Aqualeon

Aqualeon is in Costa Dorada near Tarragona and it combines a water park with a safari park (really a big open zoo). The park has a good selection of fast food facilities and is popular with families.
