Barcelona Weekend Break
Barcelona in Winter
If you have not thought about taking a Barcelona weekend break in winter, here are the reasons why you should. Indeed this is when those in the know choose to spend time in this amazing city of art and culture.
Winter Weather
Barcelona makes an ideal winter break location with temperatures rarely dropping below 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celsius) and temperatures often in the low 60's.
January in particular has a reputation for enjoying warm spells and only February (known for chilly days) is a month worth avoiding.
These late Autumn, Winter and early Spring temperatures are ideal for those wishing to explore the city's culture, heritage and entertainment. The days are warm and pleasant, but not uncomfortably so when it comes to walking around and enjoying the city.
At night too, Barcelona manages to stay reasonably pleasant, especially in the main areas of the city away from the cooler coastal breezes. If you have only been to Barcelona for its beaches, then the winter months are the time to visit the city to see its buildings, museums, restaurants and parks.
Winter Hotel deals
Although Barcelona genuinely is one of Europe's year round tourist destinations, this fact is not reflected in flight and hotel booking costs which fall outside of summer. Both are significantly reduced between the end of October and early April, even though this period is actually the best time of year to visit this magnificent city.
Dinning is also superior in the winter month as tourism reaches more manageable levels and, with the pressure off, the city's best restaurants have more time to prepare the food and provide you with a higher quality of service.
What to see in winter Barcelona
The beauty of Barcelona is that you can see and do everything in January that you can see and do in July – the only possible exception being lazing on the beach.
The parks, Gaudi buildings, cathedrals, monuments, stadiums, aquarium, tapas bars, shopping, shows and excursions are all active and less crowded than in high summer. The atmosphere too is more laid back and the real Barcelona is far more evident than in peak season.
So when is the best time to visit Barcelona on a weekend break?
In actual fact the winter period. This is when the city is at its best, its least commercial and when you can wonder around all districts of the city without feeling hot and sweaty.
