You should always be cautious in this part of Barcelona as pick-pocketing is rife and the perpetrators of these crimes work in groups with one character distracting you whilst another silently removes a purse, wallet or mobile phone.

Always keep your bags zipped or buttoned up and in front of you rather than behind or to your side. Also, do not be fooled by appearances. The team member whose job it is to attract your attention will usually be elderly or a child, this gets you to lean forward as you look down to them making movement of bags etc less noticeable. These are always stealth acts rather than violent ones, but the end result remains the same – a black spot on your weekend in Barcelona and the memories that you take away. Always be on your guard.
